If you live in Swansea and need care at home, you may be able to use Direct Payments from Swansea Council to pay for your support with Private Client Home Care – including specialist Dementia and Alzheimer’s care – at £19.28 per hour.
What are Direct Payments?
Direct Payments are funds from Social Services that are paid directly to you (or someone you trust) so you can choose and arrange your own care, rather than the council arranging it for you.
If you’re eligible for community care services, Direct Payments let you:
• Decide who supports you
• Decide when they visit
• Decide what kind of help you receive
This gives you more choice, control and flexibility over your day-to-day life.
Your Direct Payments must be used to meet the needs agreed in your care assessment and care plan with Social Services.
You can use them to buy community care services such as:
• Companionship and emotional support
• Help with preparing snacks and meals
• Light housekeeping
• Support from 1 hour up to 24 hours a day, depending on your needs
• Help with shopping and running errands
• Support to visit family and friends
• Transport and assistance for medical and personal appointments
• Social activities – for example, going to coffee shops, restaurants, events, or day support clubs
• Meaningful activities at home, such as puzzles and games
• Guidance and advice about care funding options
At Private Client Home Care, our condition-led care focuses on supporting people living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s, helping them stay safe, independent and engaged in their own home.
Private Client Home Care is an approved Swansea City Council Microenterprise provider. This means:
• We are recognised by the council to support people using Direct Payments
• Our staff can act as your Personal Assistants (PAs)
• You receive care from a small, regular team of caregivers, promoting continuity, trust, and routine
Continuity of care is especially important for people living with dementia – it reduces confusion and stress, supports independence, and can help prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

You may be asked to pay part of the cost towards your care. This depends on: • The type of care and support you need • Your income, savings and other financial circumstances
The council will carry out a financial assessment to decide how much you need to contribute, if anything. Your contribution will be the same whether the council arranges your care or you choose to use Direct Payments.Navigating funding and paperwork can feel overwhelming. We can:
• Explain how Direct Payments work in simple, clear language • Help you understand whether you might be eligible • Guide you through the application and assessment process • Support you with the ongoing paperwork and records linked to Direct Payments • Work with you and your family to build a care plan that fits your needs and routine We stay alongside you, not just at the start, but as your needs change over time.
